Dance Classes Blackburn South
Kallista Dance Academy (KDA) is proudly based right here in Blackburn South, not a satellite location or a franchise outpost, but our actual home for the past 37 years.
Blackburn South is home turf for us, we're not describing a suburb we service from a distance, we're describing our own street. KDA has operated from Indra Road for over 20years, through generations of local families.
There's something different about a studio that's genuinely part of the street it sits on. Georgia and her family have built KDA one term at a time, right here, and a good number of our teachers grew up dancing in this same studio themselves before returning to teach in it.
Family Friendly, and All Welcome
Blackburn South is a small enough community that our reception area often feels like a lounge room. Parents chat while they wait, older siblings help younger ones with their shoes, and everybody tends to know everybody by the second term.
What a Blackburn South Family Says About KDA:
“Great price! Beginner's classes, Youth classes, Advanced classes, Jazz, Intermediate classes, Adult lessons.” - Melanie
Free Trial Class
If you've walked past our windows on Indra Road and wondered what happens inside, a free trial class is the easiest way to find out. No pressure, just a genuine welcome.
What We Teach
Ballet (RAD syllabus): classical technique taught with real warmth, from first pliés in Pre-School to demi-pointe and pointe work for our senior dancers.
Jazz: energetic choreography and popular music make this one of our most-loved classes for kids and teens alike.
Tap: rhythmic and musical, surprisingly meditative once the pattern clicks, popular with kids and adult beginners alike.
Hip Hop: upbeat and expressive, with moves that build both confidence and coordination.
Contemporary: a chance to move with real emotion and individuality, building on ballet and jazz technique.
Acro: strength, flexibility and a genuine sense of achievement with every new skill landed.
VCE VET Dance: our senior students perform on stage throughout the year as part of their formal VCE assessment.
Yoga: stretch, breathe and unwind in small, term-based classes, open to dancers and non-dancers alike.
Community Support
Kallista Dance Academy joined the community celebration at the Orchard Grove Primary School Fiesta & Fireworks on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
The event was hosted at the school grounds on in Blackburn South and local performers from Kallista Dance Academy—whose main studios are located just down the road, — joined the main stage entertainment lineup to perform for the community.

Hair must be tied back in a ponytail or bun (required for ballet), with no plaits. Full detail for every level is on our Uniform page.
