Preschool Dance Classes at Kallista Dance Academy
For a lot of three and four year olds, a dance class is one of their very first experiences of being somewhere without Mum or Dad standing right next to them, and that's exactly what we've built our Preschool program around. Every class is designed to feel fun first, structured second: upbeat music, games, and plenty of smiling encouragement, with the real skill-building happening almost without the kids noticing.
We also think independence is part of the lesson. Parents are welcome to watch from our small foyer for the first few classes while your dancer settles in, and after that we gently encourage a drop-off. It's a small thing, but it's often the first time a preschooler gets to be brave on their own, and most of them surprise themselves.
What to expect
Pre-School (3-5 years): Our entry-level class: short, playful, and built entirely around fun and following along
Sub Junior: A step up for four year olds who are ready for a little more structure and a bit more focus: many of our Preschool dancers move up to Sub Junior naturally as they grow in confidence
What we teach
Ballet: An introduction to basic ballet technique, building musicality and fluidity of movement through simple, repeatable steps and plenty of imaginative play
Jazz: Upbeat music and engaging activities that help dancers develop rhythm, coordination and confidence while learning basic jazz movement
Acro: Introducing kids to moving their bodies in different ways, including upside down, and building real strength through games. This is all guided throughout by our ADA-trained teachers using carefully structured, age-appropriate activities

Is my child ready?
Every child is different, and we'd rather you ask than guess. If your dancer is three or older, Preschool is the right starting point. If you're not sure which level fits, or your child is a little younger than three, get in touch or book a free trial. Our teachers will always let you know honestly whether a class is the right fit.
What to Wear
Hip hop uniform is black leggings paired with camel-coloured jazz shoes for younger dancers, moving to black dance sneakers as students progress. Full detail for every level is on our uniform page.
Why Families Choose KDA for Hip Hop
Getting the age-appropriateness balance right isn't an accident - it's something our teaching team has refined over 37 years of running this exact class for exactly this age range, under our formal Child Safe Standards Statement of Commitment.
