Acrobatic Dance Classes in Blackburn

Kallista Dance Academy (KDA) is a certified Acrobatic Dance Association (ADA) school, teaching acro from our Blackburn South studio to dancers aged 3 through to adults.

Why the ADA Certification Actually Matters

Acro sits at the point where dance meets gymnastics, and that combination comes with real physical risk if it's taught without a proper, structured progression - tumbling and flexibility work pushed too far, too fast, is how injuries happen. ADA certification means our acro classes follow a recognised syllabus with age-appropriate skill progression built in at every level, rather than teachers freelancing tricks based on what looks impressive. It's the difference between a class that builds genuine strength and control over years, and one that chases quick wins at the expense of technique.

Acro Through the Levels

  • Pre-School (age 3+): acro introduced inside combined Jazz/Ballet/Acro classes, building foundational strength and flexibility safely from a dancer's very first class.

  • Sub Junior and Junior: continued acro development within combined classes — control, strength and confidence in foundational tumbling.

  • Sub Inter and above: a dedicated Acrobatics class becomes available, with Sub Senior and Senior dancers progressing into more advanced tumbling, strength and flexibility work.

  • Advanced and Adults: acro continues to build strength and flexibility alongside performance skills, as part of our general Advanced/Adult class program.

How Acro Fits With Your Child's Other Classes

For our youngest dancers, acro isn't performed as its own separate item — it's incorporated into their Jazz routine, so a Pre-School student in a combined Jazz/Ballet/Acro class performs one routine that draws on all three, rather than three separate pieces. As dancers move into dedicated Acrobatics classes from Sub Inter level, acro becomes a genuine complement to whatever else they're training in, building the core strength and body control that benefits ballet lines, jazz leaps and contemporary floor work alike.

What to Wear

Acro is danced barefoot, with black leggings from Sub Inter level worn under the standard KDA leotard for each level. Full uniform detail is on our uniform page.

Why Families Choose KDA for Acro

Genuine ADA certification, over 37 years of experience, and a formal Child Safe Standards Statement of Commitment make KDA a properly considered choice for acrobatic dance training — not just the nearest studio that happens to offer it.
